About
Through digital/analogue hybrid techniques, Chiu experiments with reality, matter, and form in order to create and appreciate imaginary worlds in front of the camera. A graduate of the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, she was shortlisted in the 2019 Foam Talent Call and her photography was highly rated in the 2016 LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards. Chiu’s work has featured in S'lim, a magazine published by the Helsinki-based collective, Selim Projects.

Overview

Obfuscation Studiespushes the limits of the idea of ‘objectifying’ a person. It explores the possibilities of modifying and obfuscating the human body. Wrapping the subject inside a ‘second skin’ keeps their identity ambiguous in terms of ‘human’ versus ‘object’, yet simultaneously familiar and alienating. This series seeks to find the threshold beyond which the shape and form of the body is no longer recognised, while developing a minimal type of obfuscation necessary for bringing out new aesthetics from human shapes and postures.
