What is Possible for Queer Art?

Tse Ka-man is an artist and educator. She received an MFA from Yale University, and a BA from Bard College. She has exhibited her work at Para Site in Hong Kong, the WMA Masters Exhibition, Transition, in Hong Kong, and Videotage's Both Sides Now III, and at Eaton Workshop. She has mounted solo shows at Aperture in New York, Lumenvisum in Hong Kong, the Silver Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh, PA, and the New York Public Library. Fellowships and awards include the Robert Giard Fellowship, a Research Award from Yale University Fund for Lesbian and Gay Studies, the Aperture Portfolio Prize, the Aaron Siskind Fellowship. Curatorial projects include Daybreak, co-curated with Matt Jensen at Leslie Lohman Museum. She has taught at Yale, Cooper Union, the City College of New York, and is currently Associate Director of BFA Photography at Parsons. Her monograph, narrow distances was published by Candor Arts.

Born in Hong Kong, Lau Wai currently lives and works in Hong Kong and New York. Her work utilizes photography, video, drawing and installation exploring the multilateral constructions of identity in relation to race, gender and the notion of belonging. She attempts to investigate how history, fiction, personal memory and virtuality collided in the process of identity formation through personal and historical archives, cinematic imagery, popular culture and digital media.

Her works are in the permanent collections at M+ (Hong Kong); The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (United States); and Alexander Tutsek – Stiftung Foundation (Germany), amongst others. She has exhibited in Europe, Asia, and the United States, including Kunstmuseum Brandts, Denmark (2016) ; Power Station of Art, Shanghai (2018) ; Para Site, Hong Kong (2015, 2018); Tai Kwun Contemporary, Hong Kong (2019); Kuandu Biennale, Taiwan (2018); Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, Japan (2015) ; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, United States (2019); and Yokohama Triennale, Japan (2020).

A practicing artist, curator, and scholar in art and culture, Isaac Leung obtained his PhD from the City University of Hong Kong. During his tenure as the Chair of Videotage (2013-2020), he initiated and participated in projects such as 40 Years of Video Art in Germany and Hong Kong (Hong Kong and Germany), The 12th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition (Italy and Hong Kong), Perpetual Art Machine (USA), Time Test – International Video Art Research Exhibition (China), ISEA Festival (Hong Kong, China), Both Sides Now (Hong Kong, UK, and various countries), Loop Barcelona (Spain), One World Exposition (Hong Kong), China Remixed (USA), Clockenflap (Hong Kong), and Art Basel Crowdfunding Initiative (Hong Kong). Leung has taught at the Hong Kong Baptist University, the City University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Currently Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Arts of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
